China hosts today the semi-final of the fourth stop of ITU Triathlon, World Cup Series

The fourth stop of the World Cup series started today in Chengdu, China. This multi-race two-day event consists in two main and different stops with their respective distances.

 


During the elimination round, athletes will have to complete a sprint-distance route consisting of a 750 m swim, 20 kilometer ride and 5 kilometers run.

 

In order to qualify for the finals, the men’s field which consists of a total of three semi-final rounds, athletes should be in the first 9 of each round. Three additional athletes with the best combined time from the three semi-final stages will also be qualified for the finals making a group of 30 men-athletes in total.

 

As for the women’s rounds, in total, there will be two stages. The first 14 women in each round will be the ones to qualify for the finals. Then, two other women athletes with the fastest time combined from both of the stages will also be in the A list of athletes which will have 30 women in total as well.

 

On the other hand, women and men athletes from the 31st place to the 60th will have the possibility to qualify for the B Finals. These finals will consist of an advanced sprint-distance course. They will compete in a 400-meter swim, then a 10-kilometer ride and finally, a 2.5-kilometer run.

 

Today’s the day

 

Today, men were the ones to start the semi-final series at around 09 am, May 6. Women on the other hand, followed at 11:30 am local time.

 

 

On Sunday, May 7, at 10:05 am local time, the A finals round is planned to take place. Women will follow at 10:50 am, local time.
