Team Sky’s rider has just won his first British National Time Trial Championships race and he couldn’t be any happier.
Geraint Thomas, 32, was able to clock 48 minutes and 54 seconds beating Harry Tanfield who took second, in Northumberland.
Thomas has now only one week left to prepare himself both mentally and physically for the biggest Grand Tour in the world, Tour de France, which is set to start on July the 7th.
“To come here and win the nationals for the first time is really encouraging,” Thomas said.
A magical ride from @GeraintThomas86 as he prepares for the @LeTour sees him win the 2018 @HSBC_UK National Road Championships Time Trial! ????

Climbing his career ladder
“I was confident but I didn’t know what to expect. I rarely do a one-off TT, it’s always part of a stage race where you’ve got tired legs and things,” Thomas added while talking about his mark on the 37.9km course which was set with Dowsett.
“Obviously Tanfield has been riding well this year and I’ve been watching him, and Dowsett it’s what he does. TT’ing in the UK is a strong discipline anyway, so to come and win is super nice.
“I’m super happy. I said at the start of the year that I wanted to get to the Tour de France in the best shape possible and I’m certainly on course to do that.”
During his career, in 2010, Thomas has only been able to win the National Road Race title and never the time trial! Now, after the Criterium du Dauphine victory earlier this month, success seems to be on his side.
