Latest developments from the cycling world have to do with the offer the newly-fused squad CCC has made to this season’s Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas.
It was the management department of the CCC team who confirmed the exiting news to Cyclingnews earlier today. They said that they have decided to make a serious offer to Team Sky’s rider Geraint Thomas for the upcoming season.
Keeping in mind that Thomas’ contract with British Team Sky runs out later this season, the decision whether to stay with the squad or move to a new home, is definitely going to be one of the toughest ones so far for the Tour de France champion who is still enjoying his July’s victory.
Sharing his leadership
If Geraint Thomas decides to stay at Team Sky, this means he will have to share the team leadership with four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome. On the other hand, if he decides to move and join a new cycling family, he will become the sole team leader.
CCC now hope this season’s Tour de France champion agrees to lead their squad and lead them towards becoming Poland’s first WorldTour squad in 2019 after confirming Greg van Avermaet as the Classics’ leader.
“We know his contract ends. Our team is concentrated on Greg Van Avermaet for the Classics and we are looking for a leader for the stage races like the Tour. So why not give an offer for Geraint,” sports director Wadecki told Cyclingnews a few hours ago.
“We’re waiting for an answer. If it’s working, it’s okay. Our offer is on the table, and if he says yes, it’s really nice, and we can still hire two or three guys to help him in the stage races.”
“The offer is on the table, we wait for an answer, it’s up to him to decide,” Wadecki said of Thomas.
