Asian Games: the swimming glory of Japan and China

asian games 2018

This year, we were all witnesses of how fierce and amazing the competition between Japan and China has been while competing with each other at the 2018 Asian Games.

Swimming has always been one of the main and most important fields of competition between the two nations.

And that is why, on one hand Japan had to protect its status of being slightly ahead of China for the past several years, while China, being a dominant force in the swimming sport throughout all Asia, had to fight for the top spot.

Until today, Japan has won 17 gold medals, 18 silver, and 11 bronze ones. China one the other hand has won 16 gold medals, 14 silver, and 12 bronze.

After the 2012 Olympic Games in London, China has established a great name in the swimming sport challenging both international and national swimming squads under the great ridership of Sun Yang.

Earning the golds

The world witnessed how under his leadership, China beat Japan by earning a Golden Grand Slam in the 200, 400, 1,500 m freestyle while at the Asian Games, Olympic Games and also World Championships.

“My dream has finally come true. I am very excited,” Sun has said a couple of days ago.

However this year, during Asian Games, after a couple of days of pure competition, Japan’s number of gold medals stood at 17, only one more than China’s.
