31-year old Ironman dies after being bitten by a snake while hiking

A 31-year old Ironman had lost his life just hours after he was bitten by a snake while hiking. According to the official report, Daniel Hohs was bitten by a rattlesnake. Soon after he was transported to St. Anthony’s hospital in Lakewood, he was declared dead.

Daniel Hohs was on the Mount Galbraith trailhead located in Golden, Colorado, just a mile into the hike when he saw the dangerous snake biting him. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office admitted that his cause of death is pending further investigation.

A Vibrant Ironman

Hohs had completed his first Ironman in August 2014 and reportedly moved to the area he was hiking in from Steamboat Springs.

“Dan was so vibrant,” Health Gollnick, a former Ironman teammate, told The Denver Post. “He had this huge smile and energy that just made you happy. It was contagious to everyone.”

Hohs was also known to have penned an essay in 2014 about the reason why he had turned to endurance sports to help him manage his bipolar disorder.

“Endurance sports have provided me with the motivation to improve all aspects of my life, deeply reflect on who I am, and most importantly, learn that I can do what I once thought was impossible,” he wrote, according to The Denver Post.
