Around the World in 79 days: Cyclist smashes record for the fastest navigation of the planet!

Mark Beaumont

Mark Beaumont, British endurance cyclist, was able to smash the Guinness World Record as the fastest around the globe circumnavigation!

78 days, 14 hours and 40 minutes of pedaling was the time that gave Beaumont the new world record on Monday beating the former record of 123 days!

“This has been, without doubt, the most punishing challenge I have ever put my body and mind through,” Beaumont said once he completed the journey in Paris. “The experience has been incredible, and I’m excited to share this journey for years to come.”

The rider crossed 29,000 kilometers in less than 79 days. He rode for about 16 hours a day and was able to visit Poland, Russia, Mongolia, China, The US and then Australia. The estimated calories he burned during this period of record-breaking time are more than 9,000 calories per day.

“It’s literally about riding to the next horizon,” Beaumont said after completing his marathon ride under the Arc de Triomphe in Paris.

“I’ve barely walked for two-and-a-half months.”

“I’ve worked towards this for the past 20 years. It’s not something that I just rolled out of bed and tried to do,” Beaumont said while he was in Australia.

Beaumont also broke another record for the furthest distance cycled in one month. He traveled more than 11,315 kilometers from Paris to Perth only during the last month.

On day nine, he suffered a serious crash in Russia and had to face all types of weather conditions which made him constantly fight for his health and well-being.

I broke a tooth and smashed my elbow,” cyclists said.

“It’s just the sleep deprivation. It’s after weeks and weeks and weeks, it’s just the long, long hours you spend in your head, you know, really battling,” he said.
