Mountain Arts Century (The MAC ride) : |
Cycling : Bike 100 miles, 50 miles, or 30 miles |
The Mountain Arts Century (MAC) ride begins and ends in downtown Dawsonville at the Dawson County Middle School. The full English century route circles the mountainous terrain of northern Dawson County, eastern Pickens County, and southern Lumpkin County (the home of The Six Gap Ride). This area boasts well maintained roads with minimal traffic. The terrain is constantly changing with hills of various lengths and grades. The ride is highlighted by the challenging 10 mile climb from Old Grandview Road up Burnt Mountain, which summits at mile point 40. This climb has extended grades in excess of 10%. The cumulative climbing elevation for the century is greater than 10,000 feet.
There is also a challenging 50 mile Half Century as well as a 30 mile Touring Ride that will allow cyclists to enjoy the beautiful countryside and who prefer the sanity of a shorter route.
Arrive Saturday with the whole family and enjoy the Spring Fling hosted by the Dawson County Arts Council in Dawsonville from 10am to 5pm Saturday and Sunday. The festival will be held in and around the Dawson County Middle School, Thunder Road, and the Bowen Center for the Arts. There will be a Kiwanis 5K, 10K and a fun run, Kare For Kids Classic Car Show, Humane Society Dog & Cat Activities, DCAC Childrens Fun Activities, DCAC Food Booths, Entertainment, Chamber of Commerce Hospitality Tent, and Heart in Hand Quilt Show. There is plenty of free parking near the festival site.
The ride is brought to you by the Dawson County Rotary Club and all proceeds benefit the Dawson County High School Scholarship fund.
