2013 Big Rock Triathlon:

Big Rock Olympic distance Tri (road tri) is a 2 loop swim (1.5 k) 2 loop bike (40 k) with gradual up and down hill sections and 2 short steep climbs then an out and back 10k out n back run

Big Rock Sprint distance Tri (road tri) is a 1 loop swim (800 yds) 1 loop bike (12 mi) with 1 short steep climb then an out n back 3 mi run with some small rolling hills

The Off-Road tri is the same swim and run as the sprint with a fun 14 mile off-road mountain bike course

Course Information:

Olympic Triathlon
  • The Big Rock Triathlon is an olympic distance course.
  • The swim is about 1.5 k(.9 mi) in a calm lake, with water temperature between 58 and 64 degrees. The use of wetsuits will be permitted.
  • The bike is a 2 loop 40 k (24.8 mi). route with 2 short climbs. There will be some traffic on the roadways, but it should be light. There are ample shoulders for cyclists to pass competitors without interfering with vehicular traffic. All intersections will be monitored by police personnel.
  • The run is an out-and-back 10 k (6.2 mi) run. Most of the run course is flat and fast with a few slight rises! Aid Stations There will be 2 aid stations on the bike course and 5 aid stations on the run course. Each station will provide water.

    Sprint Triathlon
  • 1/2 mi Swim, 12 mi Bike, 3 mi Run

  • The Swim will be 12 mile swim course will be marked with 5 ft yellow buoy markers on the corners Lake swim with water temp around 60 degrees. Wetsuits are highly recommended!
  • Next is the bike! It is an off-road course consisting of fire roads, jeep trails, some single track and a little paved road. There is a fair amount of climbing and some fun descents the course will be between 12 and 15 miles. It will be challenging and will test your fitness!! It will take less than an hour for strong riders to complete the bike portion a bit longer for the average rider. The bike course will be marked with BLUE direction arrows on white backgrounds. Please obey all directions and race signs
  • You top off the race with a fun 3 mile paved run! at the 1.5 mile marker you turn around and head right back to where you came from, now you can get a look at the competition as you head to the finish line! The run course will be marked with RED direction arrows on white backgrounds

  • From Los Angeles, take Highway 60 east to Interstate 215.
  • Head south on I-215 to the Ramona Expressway turnoff.
  • Head east and follow the signs to Lake Perris.
  • From Orange County take Highway 91 to Interstate 215.
  • Head south to the Ramona Expressway.

  • From San Diego take Interstate 15 north to Interstate 215.
  • Head north on I-215 to the Ramona Expressway.
  • Take the Ramona Expressway turnoff.
  • Head east and follow the signs to Lake Perris.
  • Turn left onto Lake Perris Drive to the park entrance.
  • Enter the park and drive to parking lot 8 or 10 park and walk to lot 9.
  • Lot 9 is the transition, finish line, and registration area.
  • Other Info:

  • The Lake Perris S.R.A. has campsites available. They will be reserved on a first come, first serve basis. Make your reservations NOW.
  • There are 167 campsites and 264 paved spaces for recreational vehicles up to 27 feet.
  • Each site has a table, grill and parking space for two vehicles.
  • Water, restrooms and showers are nearby.
  • The RV sites have hookups for electricity, water and sink water disposal.
  • There is a trailer sanitation station near the campground entrance.
  • For campsite cost ranges please call park.

  • Day use entrance fee is $10 per vehicle car pool and save!
