The 500-yard swim leg is in an indoor 6-lane pool with 2 competitors per lane.  Heats are seeded based upon the estimated swim time from the entry forms.   Swimmers can towel off and put on their biking gear in the pool area or dash around the building to the bike staging area in the parking lot.  The fastest swimmers leave the pool area within 5 minutes with most completing the swim in 7-10 minutes.  The 12-mile bike route is a fast, mostly flat loop on country roads and state routes.  Helmets are required.  The route is not closed to traffic, although volunteers aid bikers at each turn.  The bike course crosses the railroad tracks twice, but top competitors average over 25 mph on the course.  A 3.5-mile run (flat, straight, blacktop, out and back) route on county roads with a water-stop at the midpoint completes the event.

The Bucyrus Area YMCA 2012 Spring Triathlon will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2012 starting at 9:00 am; check-in for participants will be from 7:30-8:30 am.  Competitors may participate as individuals, or as 2 or 3-person teams.  Entries must be postmarked, faxed or arrive by Friday, May 18, 2012; checks must arrive by Thursday, May 24, 2012.  Race day registration will be allowed for those who make prior arrangements with the Race Committee by email. T-shirts are guaranteed for those who register by May 18th. Awards will be given to the following:  the top finisher overall in Womens and Mens categories; plus the top three finishers in the following Womens and Mens age groups19 & under, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49,  and 50-59, and 60 & over.  Awards will also be given to the top finisher in the Team categories for Men, Women and Coed, and to the top male and female finishers from Crawford County.  Refreshments will be provided.
