2012 Rockathlon Sprint Triathlon:

  • Rock Valley's first triathlon, the Rockathlon, will be held on August 4, 2012.
  • The event will start and finish at the new Rivers Bend Campground.
  • Teams and individuals are welcome to participate.

  • The swim portion of the event will take place in the campground, the bike portion of the event will travel from the campground to the black top K30 and travel north out & back.. The run will start in the campground and follow the city's new scenic trails.

  • The cost of the event will be $40-$50 depending on your registration date.
  • A children's triathlon will follow the Rockathlon.
  • The entry fee for this event will be $10, and all entrants will receive a participation medal.

  • Awards/Medals will be handed out for the first, second, and third place individuals for each age bracket, gender, and overall results.
  • Medals will also be awarded to the first, second, and third place relay participants.
  • The awards ceremony will take place after the final participant has crossed the finish line, and before the children's triathlon begins.

    • Course Information:



    Swim:
  • The swim portion of the event will take place in the campground.
  • It will be a 300 yard swim in the 'Swimming Hole'.

    Bike:
  • For the bike portion of the event, participants will ride from the campground to the black top K30 and travel north.
  • There will be a turnaround point right before the intersection of K30 and A42.
  • Bikers will go back the way they came to the transition area.

    Run:
  • The run will start in the campground and follow the city's new scenic trails.
  • The path will be marked by both signs and volunteers, and it will be 5 kilometers long, finishing in the campground.

  • Rivers Bend Campground is located just North of Rock Valley, IA on county road K30.

  • The location for this event is ideal for races and outdoor activities such as this. Rivers Bend Campground offers many camping areas and a lot of open space for fun.
  • The scenic bike and walking trails are great for taking in nature's beauty.
  • Families have found camping in Rivers Bend to be the perfect way to share their time together for some summer fun!
