2012 National Cycle for ALS

February is "War on ALS Month" -- Join the Fight!

Multisports Academy to Host Blazeman Foundation Indoor Cycle-a-Thon Fundraiser

Hamden, CT (February 13, 2012) --  To mark February as National Cycle for ALS Month, MultiSports Academy of Hamden will be hosting a fundraising Cycle-a-Thon on February 26, 2012.

The event will benefit the Blazeman Foundation, named in memory of  Jon "The Blazeman" Blais, the first person with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) to finish an Ironman competition. This year's goal is $10,000+ and nationally $100,000 for ALS medical research.  One-hour time slots are available between 10:00am and 2:00pm, and there are prizes for the Top 3 Fundraisers.

Clayton Tebbetts, President of Team Mossman Triathlon Club, is thrilled to host the fundraising event this year at his training facility, Multisports Academy, in Hamden, CT.

"We are excited to partner with Multisports Academy, as they have an excellent facility with 24 bike trainers and 8 spinning cycles, easy parking, and will be providing several "top gun" instructors to give participants a truly first class experience,'  said Mary Ann Blais of the Blazeman Foundation

In October of 2005, Jon Blais (Blazeman) became the first person with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) to finish an Ironman competition. He completed the 140.6 mile event in 16.5 hours to honor all past and present PALS (people with ALS). As Blazeman crossed the finish line in Hawaii, he challenged all endurance athletes to help find a cure for ALS.  In 2007 Jon passed away but the Blazeman Warriors continue to be a big part of the triathlon event.

The minimum donation to participate is $35 per hour, and participants are urged to rally for more. Interested cyclists should bring their pledges and donations (checks should be made payable to The Blazeman Foundation) to the registration table on the day of the event.  Food and drinks will be offered for Cycle-a-Thon participants.

Space and times are limited, so all interested cyclists are asked to reserve their spot in advance, and to arrive fifteen minutes prior to your reserved window.
