  • I Love The Tavern Triathlon is for all levels of experience!
  • The race will start at 7AM and will take place at the Robious Landing Park off of James River Road in Midlothian, Virginia (Southside Richmond).
  • The 750m swim will be in the James River, followed by a 18.8 mile road bike (out-n-back), and a 5k run (70% trail).
  • Water temp expected to be very warm, 80-85 degrees. Wetsuits will likely be illegal. See wetsuit page for details.
  • You will swim across, against, and with current. If the river is rough or too fast, the race director reserves the right to substitute a short run of 1-2 miles in place of the swim leg.

  • Course Information:

    SWIM
  • The 750m swim will take place in the James River, basically a sudo trianglular course heading out against the current to the west, then back toward the shoreline, the last turn buoy will parallel the shore and exit at the stairs inside the trails, sprint up a few stairs, jog .1 miles back to transition.
  • The James River is unpredictable. Be prepared for anything. Sometimes it is chocolate brown, fast, slow, high, low... we never know. What happens up in the mountains dictates what we get down here.
  • Make sure you read the wetsuit rules.
  • We will have 3 waves, 3 minutes apart, same as Naylors Beach. (* subject to change)
  • wave 1= men 39 & under
  • wave 2= men 40 & over
  • wave 3= women, relays, aquabike

    BIKE
  • The 18.8 mile bike is on rural roads heading west toward 288 and Powhatan.
  • You will make a lefthand turn on Manakintown Ferry road after the church, very nice and lowly populated, with 2 gradual climbs.
  • U-turn at the midway point on the course just before Page rd, then fly back down to make a right turn back onto Robious Rd (Huguenot trail).
  • NO BOTTLE HANDOFF ON THE BIKE.

    RUN
  • The run is basically flat 5k on shady trails through Robious Landing Park.
  • You will run a small portion into the adjoining neighborhood, please do not litter.
  • There will be 2 aid stations on the run course, locations see map.
  • One about .9 mile in and 1 at the turnaround, then hit the first one again at the 4-way intersection.
  • You will have a choice of water or Heed ( an energy drink from Hammer Nutrition, not sweet, mandarin flavor).
  • There will be white chalk heading out and orange in the return direction.
  • There are a lot of turns, pay attention to the markings and volunteers.
