2012 Rumpus In Bumpass International Triathlon:

  • The Rumpus in Bumpass is a set of races over 2 days at the Lake Anna Beach and Marina on the southeastern corner of Lake Anna where the "hot" side of the lake enters into the cold side.
  • The first open water swim of the VTS is at the same site as the Giant Acorn Triathlon and is a great place for early and late season events as the water is 4-6 degrees warmer than the upper parts of Lake Anna.
  • A beautiful venue awaits you and this race provides a great excuse to spend a weekend at Lake Anna with your family and friends. Let the Rumpus in Bumpass begin!
  • Course Information:

    Swim Course:

  • The 1500 meter swim begins with an in water start with the course going around the transition area and the finish line. Your friends and loved ones can walk around the race site and never be more than 250 yards from you as you make the 3 right hand turns that make up the course.
  • This section of Lake Anna is unique in that the water coming into this section is used to cool the power plant and is a good 4-6 degrees warmer than the rest of the lake. We expect the water temperature to be somewhere in the 60's so it will be a bit cool for the start of the race. (Note: The power plant is currently OFF. Once it is back on and heating the water we will note it on the race website)

    Bike Course:

  • The bike course is 2 loops of the sprint course for 40K.
With a left turn out of the marina the bike is all on fresh pavement and is mostly flat with some rolling sections.
The best sections are when you race across the causeways with water on either side of you.

    Run Course:

  • The run is the same as the sprint course, it's just 2 loops.
  • It goes straight out the gate then turns left for onto Eastham.
  • Athletes then come back and turn right on the dam access trail and left onto a short section of trail to start your second loop.
  • Finishing your second lap athletes turn right back towards the water and the finish line.
