Description:
  • Same location as the first triathlon in history! The Mission Bay Triathlon.
  • Course Info:
  • Swim-The water will be in the 60s so wear a wetsuit. If you dont have one, you may rent one from www.wetsuitrentals.com. The swim will be started in waves and is 500 yards uphill both ways. You will get wet in the swim.
  • Bike-All USAT rules will apply. The route is 12 miles and will consist of 3 counter clockwise big laps along the outermost perimeter of Fiesta Island. Riders entering the course from the transition area must stay to the right as riders from previous waves may be passing by on the left. There is one hazardous corner on the course and it should be practiced beforehand if possible. The course is very flat but tends to have a headwind on one side and a tailwind on the other. Dont pick up your bike until you strap your helmet. Dont draft. It will be easy to draft as more riders enter the course. Big brother is watching you! Dont block. Stay to the right except to pass. Fall back once you are passed as it is the passed riders responsibility to fall back.
  • Run-The run is 5 km and starts at the transition area and follows along the outer perimeter of the island. There will be an aid station at the 3/4 and 2 1/4 mile marks. Be prepared for soft sand, hard clay, dry dirt, and/or sloppy mud. Run conditions will be strongly dependent on spring rains.
  • Directions:
  • On the 5 heading south exit west on Clairemont Drive.
  • This exit is weird; go around the curly and stay in the left hand lane so that you can make a left on Clairement Drive.
  • At the stop sign, make a left and head south on East Mission Bay Drive. Continue until you pass the Hilton Hotel on the right.
