2011 Stonewall Jackson Triathlon:
This is the fourth year for the Stonewall Jackson Triathlon. The race concept was the brainchild of Terri Burhans, former Executive Director of the Lewis County Chamber, and J.R. Dodson, a local Triathlete. The event has grown steadily over the past few years. The race format is a 1,000 meter swim, 26 mile bike and 4 mile run. Many participants feel that the bike portion is the signature feature of the race, and the most rewarding aspect to conquer.Course Information:
The swim course is an oval-shaped 1,000 meter counter-clockwise swim with shared start and exit points at Stonewall Jackson Lake. The water temperature is expected to range between 75-80 degrees. After exiting the lake, participants will traverse a natural-ground pathway from the lake approximately 75 yards to the transition point next to the pavilion near the Roanoke Building.
Bike:
The bike course is a round-trip 26-mile course that is both very challenging and somewhat technical ride. It encompasses very scenic yet moderately difficult rolling hills as well as a difficult right-hand curve approximately 6 miles from the end. The pavement is good and the downhill portions of the course are not treacherous. The bike transition area will serve as both start and finish point for the bike portion of the race.
Run:
The 4 mile run is an out-and-back course starting at the transition area next to the Roanoke Building. Racers will run from this point on Stonewall Resort park roads alongside Stonewall Jackson Lake and the Arnold Palmer Golf Course. The run course is relatively flat. Aid Stations will be positioned at regular intervals on the run course.
Directions:
Stonewall Resort is located in north central West Virginia on US Route 19 two miles south of Exit 91 on Interstate 79 at Stonewall Resort State Park. It is approximately 2 hours from Pittsburgh PA, 3.5 hours from Cleveland OH, and Columbus OH, 4.5 hours from Washington, D.C. and 5 hours from Charlotte NC.
