The Outland Challenge has Arrived!

Showcasing the natural beauty of northeast South Dakotas Coteau des Prairies and the spring-fed waters of Lake Cochrane, The Outland Challange will test the most seasoned triathlete. Be one of only 50 athletes to participate in the inaugural season of this USA Triathlon sanctioned event. Cash prizes for the top two male and top two female finishers.

Race Info

  • The transition area will be open to athletes only starting at 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 28th.
  • The race will start at 8:00 a.m. sharp with the 25 male athletes entering the water.  The female athletes will follow shortly thereafter.
  • The awards ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m..
    $200 going to the first male finisher and $100 to the runner-up
    $200 going to the first female finisher and $100 to the runner-up
  • This will be a chip timed event managed by All Sport Central.
  • This event is sanctioned by the USAT.
  • In addition to cash prizes for the top finishers, each athlete will receive an awesome customized t-shirt and other goodies.
  • There will be a $6 day pass fee to park within the Lake Cochrane Recreation Area. There will be additional parking outside of the state park at no cost. ABSOLUTELY NO PARKING ALONG ANY PAVED ROADS.

Course

The Outland Challenge will begin and end in Lake Cochrane State Park. This 88 acre park features 30 camp sites, modern restrooms, showers and a beautiful natural sand beach. Lake Cochrane is one of South Dakotas cleanest lakes while the terrain surrounding the lake is hilly with many streams, oak covered draws and wide open, rolling prairie. We are limiting this inaugural season to 50 total athletes: 25 men and 25 women. When these 50 slots are filled registration will close.

Event to Showcase Outlands Wellness Culture and Areas Natural Beauty

CANBY, MN April 25, 2011 Outland Energy Services will sponsor the inaugural Outland Challenge Triathlon on Sunday, August 28, 2011 at Lake Cochrane State Park, South Dakota. The event will have three legs-a 400-yard swim, a 15.5-mile bike ride, and a 4.4-mile run-and is sanctioned by USA Triathlon.

In this inaugural year, participation will be limited to 50 athletes (25 male and 25 female). Registration is now open at www.outlandchallenge.org. The competitions two fastest women and two fastest men will receive cash prizes ($200 for each winner; $100 for each runner up) and be recognized at a ceremony that day. One hundred percent of proceeds after expenses will go to area charities.

The Outland Challenge is an ideal way for us to recognize the importance of employee and community wellness, said Steve Scott, president & COO of Outland Energy Services. Triathlons require dedicated athletes to perform under difficult circumstances. Similarly, Outlands dedicated employees must perform their jobs in some of the most difficult circumstances imaginable: on top of wind turbines.
