Offering three distances to accommodate all levels of experience, the Fairmont Triathlon is sure provide the racer with a memorable race day. Located between two of the city's most popular five chained lakes, Gomsrud Park seems like it was designed specifically to host a triathlon. With ample parking and shelter facilities, as well as play structures and picnic areas, the park provides racers with a comfortable setting before, during and after their race while offering spectators a very welcoming environment to get up close and cheer for all the athletes at various stages of the race. Held during Fairmont's Interlaken Heritage Days Festival, racers and their families and friends can also enjoy many other organized events throughout the weekend.

Course Information:

The well-marked swim course starts on the beach and heads out and back with a line of floating buoys that help guide swimmers to the sprint turnaround point. Olympic swimmers keep heading out to a second floating marker and turn to retrace their strokes back to the sprint course then into the transition area. The bike course greets racers with an sharp upwards climb within the first mile, but soon leaves town with gentle rolling to flat country roads for the ride out and back. The sprint turn around is well marked on an open stretch of road, but the Olympic course doubles the distance and turns around on the north shore of Lake Okamanpeedan. The run consists of a loop through several quiet residential areas lined with spectators and offers multiple water/aid stations with smiling volunteers. Racers approach the finish line by first passing a local hot spot restaurant that teases with smells of wonderful fried and grilled food, then finish just yards from the transition area.
