History of Event:
The Nishna Valley Triathlon was first held in the summer of 1982. The race was started by Griswold, Iowa resident Kirk Weaver. The race was part of the towns Old Soldier Reunion celebration. The event continued through the early 90's with the race directing torch being past to Brad Hildebrandt and Matt Carmichael. The race has that small town Iowa flavor. The town supports the event with great enthusiasm. There will be tons of volunteers, home spun goodies, pies, sandwiches, cookies and maybe some homemade ice cream. The event is a point to point race with the unique two lap swim and T1 at Cold Springs State Park located just south of Lewis, Iowa. Racers exit the park and climb south on Lewis Road to Highway 48, racers will then take a right and head north on Highway 48 to the turn around point before highway 6. The bike course heads straight south back to Griswold. T2 will be set up just south of the local high school, runners will head south and follow the outer city streets of Griswold for a flat and fast 5k and finish on North Street just south of the High School. Food, drink, and fine small town hospitality await every finisher. The event will be a USAT sanctioned event. T-shirt, great awards and yes as mentioned food, plenty of food.
