Triathlon : Swim 400 Meters, Bike 16 Miles, Run 3.1 Miles |
_ A new sprint triathlon in the Madison, Wisconsin area that takes place on the 4th of July, 2017 at 7am. This triathlon starts and finishes in the scenic Stewart Park just outside of Mt Horeb. The 400 meter, fully supported wave start swim is in a clean spring fed lake with a nice sandy beach. The 16 mile bike takes you by some of the areas well known landmarks such as Tyrol Basin and Cave of the Mounds. It starts by going through the trendy downtown of Mt Horeb and then takes you south, towards Blue Mounds where panoramic views descend into the green valleys of the Town of Vermont. You will slowly climb back towards Stewart Park along a stream while passing Tyrol Basin Ski area, and many farms that will have goats, horses and cows cheering you on. The 3.1 mile run will challenge you with some single track paths but will give you awesome scenery as you race from trail to gravel path, and mowed fields. The swim is a 400 meter swim in a spring fed lake with no boat traffic, the bike is a 14.25 mile ride that has 1 hill assending out of the park and then a gradual climb to Blue Mounds, where you then assend for 2 miles... then a gradual climb back into the park. The 5k run is challenging, all of the run portion is in the park on crushed limestone, mowed grass paths and some single track trails. Water stations on the run are at transition and the half way point.
From Madison take US 151 south to Mt horeb, take the first exit and follow the signs for Stewart Lake County Park
From Chicago take I 39 to Madison,Wi , take 12/18 to US 151 south to Mt Horeb, take the first exit and follow the signs to Stewart Lake County Park
