_ 2017 Methow Valley Off-Road Duathlon:

Please join us for the 7th Annual Methow Valley Off-Road Duathlon, held at the iconic Sun Mountain resort on the Methow trail system. Come enjoy the falls colors with expansive few of the valley in the heart of the North Cascades. Try the original HARDMAN 40K Mountain Bike, 10K Trail run or the new SPRINT 20K Mountain Bike & 5K Trail Run, TEAM or SOLO. FREE microbrew, plenty swag and a warm bowl of chili!

SPRINT
$35 Solo/$65 Team until August 15th
$45 Solo/$85 Team after August 15th

HARDMAN
$40 Solo/$75 Team until August 15th
$50 Solo/$90 Team after August 15th

Course Information:


HARD MAN COURSE

MOUNTAIN BIKE PORTION
The course starts out of the Chickadee Trailhead Shelter. Racers will hop on their bikes and head up on Thompson Ridge Rd to the top of the ridge. After a tough climb racers will slalom down the single-track on Pete’s Dragon and the Lower Inside Passage Trails crossing the road and connecting on to the Overland Trail. The course will continue south on Little Wolf Creek Road connecting to the Fox Loop, then on to Black Bear for a descent down to the Winthrop Trail and climb back to the start for their second lap. Racers will pass Chickadee Trailhead and head back up Thompson Ridge Rd for a second loop. The route above is a TOTAL of 40 KM of biking.

TRAIL RUN PORTION
After bikers complete the second loop they will stop short at the Chickadee parking lot to drop their bikes and begin the running portion of the race. Participants will run down Patterson Lake Road cutting south through the Patterson Cabins parking lot which connects to Patterson Lake Trail for grand views over looking the lake. Racers will then climb west up Radar Creek Trail to Criss-Cross Trail passing over Thompson Ridge Road and back up Yellowjacket Trail. The final leg down Rodeo Trail finishes at the Chickadee Trailhead shelter with keg beer, pizza and celebration.
The TOTAL trail run will be 10KM.

SPRINT COURSE

MOUNTAIN BIKE PORTION

The run starts at theChickadee Trailhead shelter (start/finish) and run across Thompson Ridge Rd and on toYellowjacket Trail .Follows Yellowjacket Trail and down to Rodeo Trail back to Thompson Ridge Rd and back up the Finish atChickaedee Trailhead.
The TOTAL trail run will be 5KM.

Directions:


Driving Directions to the Methow Valley:
· If you're coming from Seattle/Bellingham/Vancouver you'll probably take HWY 20 (North Cascades Hwy) East from I-5 to get to Winthrop.
· If you're coming from Tacoma (Olympia/Portland/Etc.) take HWY 18 East to I-90 and go over Snoqualmie Pass, Blewett Pass (Hwy 97) and follow the Columbia River North to the Methow Valley which means you'll get to Sun Mountain via Twisp (You can always go over the North Cascades Hwy instead, but you may risk hitting Seattle traffic).
· If you're coming from anywhere East of the mountains (Eastern BC, Spokane, Tri-cities, ID, MT, Yakima, Ellensburg, Wenatchee, etc.) you'll get to Sun Mountain via Twisp.

Driving directions from Winthrop:
From the four-way stop sign in downtown Winthrop, go east on HWY 20 about a half mile and turn right after crossing the bridge onto Twin Lakes Road. Follow Twin Lakes Road about 3 miles to Patterson Lake Road and turn right. Follow Patterson Lake Road about 5 1/4 miles to Chickadee Trailhead/Thompson Ridge Road and turn left into the parking lot. Allow 20-25 minutes for drive time and watch out for deer!

Driving directions from Twisp:
From Twisp River Pub in downtown Twisp, head west on HWY 20 for about 5.5 miles and turn left onto Twin Lakes Road. Follow Twin Lakes Road about 2 miles and turn left onto Patterson Lake Road. Follow Patterson Lake Road about 5 1/4 miles to Chickadee Trailhead/Thompson Ridge Road and turn left into the parking lot. Allow 25-30 minutes for drive time and watch out for deer!

Racers are always welcome at North Cascades Mountain Hostel!
Racers and entourage are welcome to take advantage of the race weekend special: 2 nights in a bunk for $40 per person!

The hostel will also be the location of Race Bag pick-up Located just up Pool hall hill above Town Hall. A short 1 min walk to restaurants and the bars of downtown Winthrop. A great place to rest before the race and celebrate your accomplishment after the race!

$25 Bunks, $70 & up cabins , communal kitchen and bathroom facilities, self-serve laundry, free wifi and much more. Check us out on the web and on Facebook.

Camping
The Forest Service has nice campgrounds on Hwy 20 just west of Mazama--Early Winters Campground is the closest to the race of those. A little closer to the race are a couple of private campgrounds and a state park (Pearrygin Lake).
