The Boulder Peak Triathlon this July 9th is one of the countries longest and most well-known triathlons. For the veteran or first time racer this is the can’t miss event of the summer triathlon season, and the crown jewel of the 5430 Triathlon Series. Professionals will be competing for a $25,000 prize purse, while amateurs are tackling the infamous “Olde Stage” Hill, boasting an average 15% grade on their way to the finish line! This race has earned its spot on more than a couple notable “Best Triathlons in America” lists.
BOULDER PEAK TRIATHLON SWIM COURSE (1500 Meters)
The 1,500-meter swim portion of the event starts and finishes east of the transition area at the Boulder Reservoir open swim area. The one-loop course is well marked by large buoys and begins on the west side of the open swim area. The flow is a clockwise direction and upon exiting the swim athletes will follow the marked course to transition. This year’s event will feature wave starts from the beach. Groups of 25-50 people will release every few minutes onto the swim course, alleviating previous swim congestion.
BOULDER PEAK TRIATHLON BIKE COURSE (42K)
If there's one feature of this triathlon that is the most talked about it's the bike course. You can't mention the Boulder peak race without talking about the Olde Stage Climb. Athletes will leave the reservoir on the rolling country roads before turning off for a quick detour up Olde Stage, which boasts an average 15% grade to the mail boxes at 6,500ft. If you ever imagined what it's like climbing one of the infamous Tour de France climbs with spectators and volunteers cheering you on to the aid station at the top this is your chance! Once athletes descend back to Lee Hill rd and US 36 it's all rolling country roads on the way back to the reservoir!
BOULDER PEAK TRIATHLON RUN COURSE (10k)
The 6.2-mile, one-loop run course is flat and fast and follows a counter clockwise flow. Athletes will head south out of transition and continue east and run along the dam of the Boulder Reservoir. Aid stations will be located every mile on the run. With the exception of the first and last half mile, the entire course consists of dirt roads rather than pavement. The finish line chute is located between the Athlete Expo and the transition area.
