Please join us for the Spring Into Action 5K and 2 mile walk. April is Child Abuse Prevention and Awareness Month. This event is being hosted in support of the upcoming Child Advocacy Center that is coming to Watertown to help child abuse victims.
Along with participating community organizations, the Watertown Police Department and South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation are establishing a Child Advocacy Center that would provide a number of services to child sexual and/or physical abuse victims, including medical care and legal counseling, from 13 counties across northeast South Dakota. All services will be staffed by trained personnel and overseen by experts. The center will be helping child abuse victims in a state where there are nearly 4,000 victims of abuse annually, according to a study conducted by the statewide Jolene’s Task Force. In 2015, 188 abuse cases were identified in northeast South Dakota alone, with 49 originating in Watertown. This center is going to dramatically improve the quality of life for children and families in Watertown and the surrounding counties.
The 5K and walk will start and finish in the garage at the Watertown Police Department located at 128 N. Maple. Registration starts at 9:00 am and 5K/Walk starts at 10:00 am.
Please register by March 25th to ensure that you receive your shirt on race day.
