The clinic is based upon the Ironman Series book by the same title and is taught by the book's author, Ingrid Loos Miller.
No. In fact, if all you want a practice swim, go to a different clinic. This clinic focuses heavily on teaching and practicing specific open water skills. It is not a glorified workout.
Swimming in a triathlon is wild. It is nothing like a swimming pool which is clean, temperature controlled and has lane lines to give you adequate elbow room. The triathlon swim is the most dangerous part of your race day. It is very crowded, your vision is impaired, you are wearing a wetsuit and you want to perform well too! The more prepared you are for these challenges, the more fun and the safer you will be when you race.
No. This clinic is for Open Water skill building only. If you are interested in improving your swimming technique, look for Ingrid's Freestyle Improvement Workshops or contact her directly.
This workshop is for beginners to the sport, especially those that are reluctant to do so because they are anxious about the swim. You should be able to swim about (30- 40 laps/lengths) continuously in a pool.
If you are truly afraid to get into the water, you should take a Fearless Swimming Open Water Pool Clinic first. You will learn many of the basic skills that will make your transition to open water much easier. Contact Ingrid at Ingridloosmiller at gmail.com if you have questions.
Space is limited at our workshops so we can give you adequate attention. Our workshops are longer than most and we go into lots of detail about overcoming fear, hence the title. We take a slower, step-by-step approach to building the skills you need to feel good about your ability to manage swimming in triathlons.
