IronKids mission is to inspire and motivate youth through the sport to lead an active, positive, and healthy lifestyle. Each athlete will compete in an age-appropriate triathlon distance corresponding with his or her age, with the divisions being as follows:
Junior (6-8 year-olds): 50 yard swim, 2 mile bike, 500 yard run
Intermediate (9-11 year-olds): 150 yard swim, 4 mile bike, 1 mile run
Senior (12-15 year-olds): 300 yard swim, 8 mile bike, 2 mile run
Athletes will compete within his or her own age-group (examples: 6 year-old females, 9 year-old males, etc.). The top five athletes within each age-group qualify for the 2011 Hy-Vee IronKids National Championship presented by Dole, which will take place on September 17, 2011, in West Des Moines, Iowa. Athletes who place in the top three within each age-group receive a commemorative IronKids trophy, and all athletes who cross the finish line earn a participant medal.
Course Information:
- IronKids Oro Valley will feature an outdoor, 50-meter pool swim, followed by the TriSports.com featured bike course (which will be closed off to motor traffic), and the run will be completed on a combination of paved walkway and grass.
