Come Ride, Walk or Run with us! The Tour de H2O is truly a grassroots fundraising event with one goal: assist impoverished rural East African communities with providing safe drinking water and sanitation.
This year we are offering 5 bicycling distances, ranging from 10 to 62 miles. Or if you prefer to walk or run, you can enjoy 5 or 10 mile paths (or actually anywhere in between) within the park. All bicycle routes will be on a combination of bike path and low-traffic country roads and will be supported by drink stops and a SAG vehicle.
There are many organizations that provide aid to Africa and many ways to provide that aid, but not all strategies are effective. It is therefore important to find the right organization to work with on an endeavor like this.
For the Tour de H20 we have partnered with Global Partners for Development(GPFD). GPFD works directly with schools and community leaders in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania to identify and implement development projects in the areas of education and public health.
Water is never taken for granted in East Africa. During the dry seasons, water supplies are inadequate or non-existent in many villages. Dirty contaminated water is responsible for a myriad of health problems including dysentery and malaria.
GPFD responds to communities with water needs through WASH (water, sanitation, and hygiene) projects that provide:
