2011 Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon:
The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon will celebrate its 30th year as one of the premier triathlons in the world on Sunday, June 5, 2011.
For 31 years, this legendary race has attracted professional and amateur athletes from around the world with its challenging course including the infamous swim from Alcatraz Island to the shore, the hilly bike ride and grueling run through San Francisco.
The Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon will be packed with heart-pounding action featuring a 1.5 mile swim through frigid waters from Alcatraz Island to shore, a grueling 18-mile bike race, and a demanding 8-mile run through the rugged trails of Golden Gate Recreation Area.
Set against the natural beauty of San Francisco, this thrilling triathlon is a virtual postcard of the City by the Bay.

This world renowned triathlon, in which only 2,000 triathletes/relay teams can participate, is sold out within hours of the registration opening every year. Fans will not want to miss this world class sporting event at the Marina Green where they can see the swim start and end, the athlete transition areas and the finish line.
Spectators also are invited to enjoy the free Fitness Festival & Expo throughout the weekend featuring dozens of vendors, product demonstrations, refreshments and more.
Participants must either qualify for Escape from Alcatraz through the Escape to Alcatraz Triathlon Series or register for the Random Lottery.
