_ 2017 Mountain Man Half & Olympic Distance Triathlons:
Come experience one of the Southwest’s best venues. This local, family-run event is the 5th oldest triathlon West of the Mississippi River. The race course includes breathtaking views of the San Francisco Peaks, Lake Mary, and Mormon Lake. Right after the monsoon season with flora in full bloom. This is our 33rd annual event with fun, prizes, and a great course. We strive to provide a fair, fun, and safe race experience with competition and sportsmanship at all levels. We have age group, overall, Masters, Clydesdale and Athena race categories.
Swim: This is the City of Flagstaff Reservoir: Upper Lake Mary. Average lake temperature for the last 9 years has been 70-71° F. Wetsuits OK. Wave starts. Get your new Mountain Man swimsuit at Swimzee.
Bike: Cut off time for the half swim and bike is 4:50 hours. You will not be allowed to start the run if you enter transition past this time. Is there a more beautiful bike course in the West? Out and back course on paved roads with wide bike shoulders. Olympic and half iron courses has three consecutive hills near the turnaround. Beautiful vistas with lake views the whole way. 70.3 Hilly course with nothing steeper than a 395 feet climb, and great views of San Francisco Peaks. Race numbers must be attached to your bike frame. Cyclists are personally responsible for the proper working condition of their bike.Bike helmets are required.
Run: Out and back run on paved roads along beautiful Lake Mary. Olympic and Half Iron course climbs a decent hill (385') and are otherwise flat. Race numbers must be worn and visible from the front. Water aid stations are every 1.5 miles. Run defensively and follow all instructions of safety personnel. Traffic will not be stopped for this event, except at the intersections and turnarounds, and then at the discretion of the safety personnel.
The Upper Lake Mary boat docks are about ten miles south of Flagstaff, AZ on Lake Mary Road at mile post 333
