Set at the same venue as the wildly popular IRONMAN Arizona, this race is the perfect tune-up for the full-distance race in November, or just a great way to get out and compete in a half-distance event in a phenomenal setting.
The race begins at Tempe Beach Park, just west of the Mill Avenue Bridge. The swim takes place in a calm, manmade lake with water temperatures in the mid 60s. The three-loop (each loop is 18.5 miles) bike course is a relatively flat and winds through Tempe before offering some scenic vistas of the Sonoran desert. The two-loop run follows a 6.5-mile loop around Tempe Town Lake with some great views of Arizona State University and the developing landscape of Tempe.
Just minutes from Phoenix airport, Tempe is a perfect race venue that's easy to get to from anywhere in the world. As home to one of America's largest universities, Tempe offers lots of sun and heat, which makes this this a great recreational destination for triathletes and their families.
The race kicks off with a one-loop, wave start in Tempe Town Lake. Water temperatures is expected to be in the low to mid-70s F.
The relatively flat, three-loop bike course winds through the streets of Tempe, giving each athlete a glimpse of some of the best that Tempe has to offer. While there are a few sharp turn-arounds, this course is sure to surprise athletes with how fast their splits are!
The very spectator friendly, two-loop run course takes athletes around the shores of Tempe Town Lake. It is very exposed to sunlight, which can be strong in the October afternoons.
