_ 2017 IRONMAN 70.3 Augusta Triathlon

Established in 1736, Augusta is not only one of Georgia’s oldest cities, but also a historical remnant resulting from the most revolutionary chapter in American history. Offering its guests tours throughout the city, authentic southern cuisine, access to the boyhood home of Woodrow Wilson, and the sight of majestic antebellum mansions, Augusta merges classical and contemporary culture with charm and style. Spectators and athletes can expect an unforgettable and fierce day of competition.

Athletes will start their day swimming with the current and should anticipate record breaking times as they venture 1.2 miles in a point-to-point swim in the Savannah River.

Located at the Augusta Rowing Complex, athletes will enter transition and prepare to start their single-loop, 56-mile bike ride throughout Georgia and into the countryside of South Carolina. The hilly terrain of this one-loop course will spread out the field and be a true test of stamina, proving it to be anything but "peachy."

Lined with spectators, athletes can expect to be cheered on from start to finish of the 13.1-mile, two-loop run throughout downtown Augusta. Participants will conclude their day with a strong finish on Broad Street, adjacent to Augusta Commons.

Course Information:

The swim course is a point-to-point course that will start at 6th Street and the Savannah River at the Riverfront Marina. Athletes will enter the water and swim with the curent for 1.2 miles along the shoreline until they exit the swim course at the Augusta Rowing Complex public boat ramp. Once athletes reach the top of the public boat ramp, they will run a short distance to transition which is located in a grass lot of the Augusta Rowing Complex.

The single-loop, 56-mile route, begins at the Transition Area located at the Augusta Rowing Club. Athletes will exit downtown Augusta and then the entire state of Georgia, as they continue their ride into South Carolina. Rolling hills and some technical turns will greet the athletes along the way. Athletes can expect to be tested a few times on the course with some slow inclines and fast downhill descents, but the course also plays to those that like to hammer down with a number of long straightaways. The route has all the elements, and will treat the beginner and more experienced cyclist to a ride to remember. As the athletes near the end of the ride, they’ll re-enter Georgia and then downtown Augusta, to return back to Transition Area at the Augusta Rowing Club.

Augusta’s 13.1-mile run course takes athletes through the streets of historic downtown Augusta for a two-loop, flat and fast, spectator friendly experience. Athletes will be treated to one of the flattest run courses there is to offer. Traversing through the downtown grid of Augusta streets, spectators will be able to easily navigate and see their athlete multiple times each loop. With a finish line located on Broad St., in front of the Augusta Commons, there is no shortage of spectators cheering the competitors on all the way to the last step through the finish line arch.
