The Buffalo Soldiers, who rode bicycles (instead of motorcycles), will mark the 150th anniversary of the Buffalo Soldiers Calvary Association in 2016. During their 1896 excursion from Fort Missoula, Mont., to Yellowstone National Park, riders of the 25th Infantry Bicycle Corps, led by 2nd Lt. James A. Moss, see below, posed on Miverva Terrace at Mammoth Hot Springs. To celebrate, The Buffalo Soldiers have reserved the dates of June 25th & 26th for celebration across the US.
The Descendants of Colonel Charles Young have organized this event to raise money for a feasibility study to help Mason County Fiscal Court to determine how to best utilize the 38 acres of land, which is in the process of being a Historical landmark for the Mason County community.
The bike route will be approximately 50 miles beginning from Mays Lick, KY, the birth place of Colonel Charles Young to Ripley, Ohio, where he was raised.
The day of the Bike Ride will be on Saturday June 25th, 2016 starting at 8:00am. The journey will begin at the birthplace of Colonel Charles Young, 6319 Helena Rd, Mays Lick, Kentucky, to The Parker House, 300 Front St., in Ripley, Ohio. The trip will be approxmiately 50 miles round, with landmarks at Maysville Community College andd Maysville Bridge. Exact routes will be posted at a later date by Peter Chamness of the Limestone Cycling Club, please see a general overview of the route below.
