Summer Blast Twilight Sprint Triathlon : |
Triathlon : .25 mile swim, 12 mile bike, 2 mile run |
This is a fun, safe and fast course for the experianced triathlete as well as the beginner. It's just a short trip to the north Ga mountain town of Hiawassee where you will have plenty to choose from if you want to come for the weekend with your family or just come for the race. We have suggested places to stay and eat while you are here and encourage you to use them so sponsorship money is well spent.
This race is an evening race with a check in time of 4pm and a race start time of 6pm. We will do awards right after the last racer finishes the event.
The swim leaves the beach and crosses 75 yards to an island that you swim around. We set the course up so swimmers that need to can stand up and rest if needed. After rounding the back of the island, there is another 75 yard swim to the marked finish line, then out of the water and into transition for the 12 mile bike course that goes through Hiawassee Ga and around the back of Lake Chatuge, ending up back at the Fairgrounds for a fast 2 mile run within the complex. It is all very safe for racers and with a minimum of traffic to deal with on the roads.
We like to say that Hiawassee is 2 hours from anywhere... or almost anywhere.
If you look at a map with Atlanta, then go north to the NC state line you will see Blairsville and Hiawassee. You can easily come up through Helen to get here too. The same for people coming from Chattanooga (go east) or Greenville (go west). Like I said, about 2 hours from anywhere. All in all, it is a great race with a low key atmosphere so you can relax and enjoy. Bring the kids to get their first time experiance racing or, if you like to tear the course up and go all out for a short distance, this is your race to enjoy.
Contact me about bringing groups up. I can make special offers for 10 or more.
