Come run with us on the beautiful Sun Mountain trails in Winthrop, WA  just after the longest day of the year. We invite you to challenge yourself for 12 or 24 hours. Your options will range from running solo, tandem, or as a relay team of four around a winding 4.8mi loop course nestled in the heart of the Cascades.  Our goal is to provide both a competitive and fun atmosphere for everyone to enjoy, whether you are out running the pristine trails of Sun Mountain or hanging out with us beside a campfire between relay legs under the stars.  

Race Options:

*12 Hour Solo or Tandem

*24 Hour Solo, Tandem, or Team of 4

Runners will complete a 4.8 mile loop on the Sun Mountain trails as many times as they can in 12 or 24 hours. Tandems and teams of 4 will hand off to teammates each lap. Awards will be given to the first, second, and third place finishers in each of the solo, tandem, and 4 person team categories. In the case that your last runner does not have enough time to complete a full lap there will be a 0.5 mile loop they will run till time expires. 

*All registered runners will receive: race bib, finishers swag, pasta dinner, and a crepe breakfast.  The dinner will feature spaghetti, garlic bread, and an Italian vegetable and salami salad, and breakfast will have crepes, sausages, and fruit salad. There will also be snack and drinks to be had. S'mores, tea, coffee, and other goodies. 

*Final pricing will include all meals and snacks, processing fee and applicable tax.

*All entry fees are non-refundable.

Overnight use of Chickadee Trailhead:

The U.S. Forest Service is issuing us a one night usage permit for the Chickadee Trailhead area for the night of June 25th. There is limited space for tents. We are asking that each team have only one and that it be no bigger than a 4 man tent. We will only be able to stay overnight on June 25th. There are several quality establishments in Winthrop that would love your business if you plan on coming over early or staying longer than the night of the race.

 

 

 

Event details and schedule

Packet Pickup:

Early packet pickup information will be e-mailed to race participants one week before the race. Day of race  packet pickup will be at the Chickadee trail head starting at 7:30AM on June 25th. Race start time is 10:00 AM on June 25th and will run until either 10:00 PM on June 25th for the 12 hour runners or 10:00 AM on June 26th for the 24 hour runners. 

Course:

Come run with us on the beautiful Sun Mountain trails in Winthrop, WA. The 4.8mi loop consists of 98% single track. This course nestled in the heart of the Cascades Mountains with mountain, lake, and forrest view for your running pleasure.


Directions to the Race Site:

*From the West: Take US-2E/US-97N towards Okanogan/Spokane.  After crossing the Columbia River, turn left to stay on US-2E/US-97N. Stay straight on US-97N when US-2E branches off. Turn left on WA-153N. Continue onto WA-20W.  Turn left onto Twin Lakes Rd. Turn left onto Patterson Lake Rd.  Turn left onto NF-4410/Thompson Rd.  Chickadee Trailhead will be on the left. 

*From the East: Take US-2W.  Turn right onto WA-21N (signs for WA-174/Republic Grand Coulee Dam).  Continue onto WA-174W; it will turn slightly right and become WA-17N.  Turn right onto US-97N.  Turn left at Malott Hud Rd.  Turn right onto Malott Eastside Rd.  Continue onto B and O Rd and stay on B and O until WA-20W where you turn left.  Turn left onto Twin Lakes Rd.  Turn left onto Patterson Lake Rd. Turn left onto NF-4410/Thompson Rd.  Chickadee Trailhead will be on the left.

Chickadee Trailhead Parking: 

Parking at the Chickadee Trailhead area is limited. We are asking that teams carpool to the Chickadee parking area. Please no travel trailers or RVs, as they take up too much space. Trucks with cabover campers will be permited. We thank you in advance.

Weather Conditions: 

Historically, weather conditions have been excellent for this time of year. The mean temperatures for June in Winthrop since 1931 have ranged from a high of 77 degrees to a low of 45 degrees with barely an inch of precipitation on average. Nevertheless, please be prepared for all types of weather as you never know what Mother Nature will throw at us.

Resources: There is no water on sight at the Chickadee trailhead. Each runner will be responsible for providing their own resources. Race organizers will provide limited amounts of basic race goodies.
