Triathlon : Swim 14 Mile, Bike 10 Miles, Run 3.1 Miles |
This is the first triathlon in connection with the Aldo Leopold Festival. It includes running, biking and kayak legs, highlighting the excellent opportunities for each in the Les Cheneaux area. Participants are encouraged to join other Leopold Festival events during the time of their visit. These include photographic presentations of native orchids, wild birds talks, and guided tours through our area's beautiful preserves. Go to the Les Cheneaux Chamber of Commerce web page for further details regarding the Leopold Festival and lodging options.
This is a great opportunity to work the winter kinks out of your system for a summer of active events.
Starting time for the triathlon is at 10 am on Satruday, May 14. Meet us at the beach in the quaint little community of Hessel, on the north shore of Lake Huron, one of the more picturesque communities in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The running segment will be first, followed by biking, and kayak legs. All participants must wear helmets while biking and life jackets while kayaking. Kayaks are available for rent from Woods & Water Ecotours at 906.484.4157 but supplies are limited and you must meet their rental requirements. The biking and running legs cover fairly flat terrain and wind through very rural and residential areas. Kayaks and bikes can be dropped off at the Hessel Beach but parking should be at the Hessel School, only a short block away. Registration packets will be available at the Hessel School until one hour prior to the race.
