- 2016 - We are pleased to be doing a sprint triathlon in Hiawassee Ga on August 8 at the Ga Mountain Fairgrounds.  

This is a very different triathlon.  You can leave to make the beautiful ride to the north Ga. mountains at noon, do the race in the early evening and be home in your own bed that same night...... if you want to.  But, you would be missing all the fun things that our mountain community has to offer.

Boating, Jet Skiing, Wakeboarding, Hiking, great restaurants and a whole lot more are here waiting for you to bring the family and make a weekend out of it.

If you have kids and let us know in advance, we can have some very responsible people to watch them in the play area while you do our race.

It promises to be a very fun and unique triathlon event, so come and join us.

Event details and schedule

We plan on doing something special for this event.  We did it a few years ago and people loved it.  Instead of doing an early morning race, we plan on doing our sprint triathlon in the evening.  Check in will start at 4pm with a 6pm start time.  You will swim 1/4 mile, around an island, then go for a 12 mile bike ride, ending with a 2 mile run.  For the beginner racer, it will be a great way to get into the sport of triathlon, and for the seasoned racer, it will be a chance to burn up the course.

The swim is a very safe swim for beginners.  It leaves the shore, crosses 100 yard of open water, then you will have shallow water an the island to swim around.  The last thing is a 100 yard crossing back to the start area, then out of the water and into transition.  

The bike course will take you out of the fairgrounds, then to the left, thru Hiawassee then a right turn onto Sunny Side Road to go off the main road and a smooth paved country road around the back of Lake Chatuge.  When you get to the light on Hwy 76, go right and get ready to turn back into the Ga Mt. Fairgrounds in about 1 mile.

The run leaves the transition area, goes to the entrence on Hwy 76, a HARD left turn that takes you right back up the hill, then a snaking run around the park and back to the finish line.

By the end of the race, it should be cooling off and there will be plenty of goodies to snack on while you listen to some music and root on other racers.
