Running : Run 6.2 Miles |
In 2009, Jon Blakeslee decided to start the Cherish Life 10K for two reasons. First, to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society because in 2005 his wife Harriett was diagnosed with leukemia. She was in remission for two years, but in 2008 relapsed and had to have a bone marrow transplant. The Blakeslee family had been supporting the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society through the Team in Training and Light the Night programs, but Jon wanted to continue to make donations in a broader way to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Secondly, being a runner in Martin County, Jon felt that there was a lack of 10K distance races in the area. Also, Jon wanted to bring a race to the south Stuart area because there are so many runners his Rocky Point neighborhood. The course of the Cherish Life 10K is a route that Jon uses for his training runs.
We hope that the race continues to grow and that each year we can continue to contribute to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Since its inception, the Cherish Life 10K has raised over $25,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
