The swim for the sprint is one lap that goes out across 200 feet and back in. The swim starts at the beachfront, drop down to about 5.5 feet at about 100 feet and then comes back up to 4 feet or so and stays at this level for the rest of the swim until you get back in close to shore. The Olympic swim is 2 laps where the swimmers go out, across, back to the first buoy, across to the start buoy at about 4 feet and then back out on lap 2. This is a great swim course for newbies or people who are not as secure with their swimming.
The bike course is an out and back with a loop at the end for the olympic bikers. The bike winds first through Hudson and then head up the hill and out of the St. Croix River valley. The bikers will go to 5 miles about and turn around. The olympic bikers with go through Burkhardt and do a loop out by Boardman before coming back on the same roads they went out on. The course is rolling hills except for the one hill at mile 2 that is a nice hill they go up on the way out and down on the way back.
The run is also an out and back but the first 0.5 miles is on a trail along the river. Then the participants take 2nd Street across the bridge to North Hudson and then a left on Wisconsin Street. The sprint runners turn around at 2 miles while the olympic runners continue into North Hudson were they make a residential loop before heading aback the way they came. This run course has a few hills but a majority of it is flat and many say that it is fast!
