The Children's Center for the Visually Impaired (CCVI) prepares children with visual impairments, including those with multiple disabilities, to reach their highest potential in the sighted world.

Increasingly, that world faces environmental challenges of its own. As CCVI's largest fundraiser - and one of the nation's largest 4-mile runs - the Trolley Run seeks to reduce its environmental impact, as it continues to grow its impact on the children and families of CCVI.

We are pleased to be in our second year of efforts for the Sustainability Plan for the Trolley Run. Led by guidelines set by the Council for Responsible Sport, the following is a list of our goals and initiatives:

• Measure race day waste and divert at least 60% of total waste
• Donate at least 90% of leftover food items to a local homeless shelter or food pantry
• Use zero Styrofoam - and introduce a zero Styrofoam policy for all Trolley Run and After Bash vendors
• Estimate the carbon travel footprint of event participants
• Eliminate at least one printed pre-race material
• Provide composting receptacles for paper cups; measure total composted
• Solicit feedback in post-race survey from participants
• Eliminate physical race bags and introduce virtual race bags
• Quantify percentage of paper registrations vs online
• Work with an organization to set up running shoe donation at packet pick-up
• Set up recycling opportunities for race bibs
• Continue previously established initiatives, including providing recycling bins during race and eliminating participation medals
