Triathlon : Bike 19 Miles, Paddle 3 Miles, Run 8 Miles |
Bike
The first leg will be biking. Everyone will start at Memory Lake Park and travel through Crex Meadows Wildlife Area. This portion of the event is 19 miles and you will experience a variety of terrain – some very challenging ground (sugar sand, sand, gravel, pavement) and curves. An off-road bike is recommended. HELMETS REQUIRED!
Arriving at Phantom Lake, racers will leave their bikes and grab their kayaks for a 3 mile paddle. There will be transition zone volunteers to help you get your bike secure, vessel to the landing and in the water safely. Only one person per kayak and no motors allowed. YOU'LL NEED A KAYAK, PADDLES AND LIFE JACKET!
Transition volunteers will help get your kayak out of the water so you can quickly dry off and fuel up. Water and energy drinks will be provided at the transition zone. Get ready for a challenging, yet very fun 8 mile run. Terrain varries from pavement to sand to gravel and finishing off with 4 miles of trail running at Memory Lake Park. TIP: CONSIDER HAVING AN EXTRA PAIR OF DRY SOCKS OR RUNNING SHOES TO KEEP AT TRANSITION ZONE FOR CHANGING - JUST IN CASE YOU TIP IN YOUR KAYAK!
If competing on a team, it is a RELAY. Only one person per leg of the race.
