The XTERRA Aspen Valley is Colorado's most unique off-road triathlon!  After years of searching for the perfect mountain venue a private property owner, with a passion for water skiing and mountain biking, has created a one-of-kind venue.  The swim starts out on a single lap 1200m swim in the crystal clear waters of Kodiak Ski Lake.

Once out of the water athletes will transition to their mountain bikes for the most iconic part of this event.  The ride is a two-lap course (12 miles), or a NEW 1-Lap (6 mile) option that takes riders on flowing single-track and over wood features never before seen in an XTERRA event.  The pictures on the course maps page only offer a mild snapshot on the one-of-a-kind experience this course offers.  Overall the course is labelled as strong intermediate; slightlyeasier than XTERRA Curt Gowdy, but far more technical than XTERRA Lory.

The 5k run course starts out by taking triathletes on one of the most unique features on the property; a 3/4 mile long winding wood bridge over a pond. This run will fly by as you run through wild flower cooridors and over a canal before hitting the finish line!  And the kicker - riders will only get to experience this course two times per year, once on Friday for preview and then on RACE DAY!

Course Information:

XTERRA ASPEN VALLEY SWIM COURSE (1200 meters):  The swim course for the XTERRA Aspen Valley Triathlon will take place in Kodiak Ski Lake - A Private Ski Lake.  Average depth 10ft which allows for a water temp to be 75 degree in late July!

Swim Set-up: The swim course is an out and back style with very unique turn-around islands, not buoys!  Swimmers will enter the water on the sandy swim beach for an in water start.  Once the gun goes off swimmers will swim 600m down one side of the lake, swim around the turn-around island, return down the other side.  Swimmer will finish by heading around the 2nd turn-around island before exiting on the boat ramp.  You'll be ranked by swim and mountain bike ability to help group you will similar ability levels out on the course!

XTERRA ASPEN VALLEY BIKE COURSE (2 Laps - 12 Miles, or 1-Lap - 6 Miles):  If there's one word to describe this bike course it's "unique".  The course starts out on the south end of the property with double track trail for the first 3/4 of a mile to allow for ample passing.  After the double track riders will quickly hit a steep switch back single track climb.  Right at the apex the course dips back down for the most technical descent of the course before hugging an old canal built in the 1870's.  After a few bridge crossing riders emerge from the woods for a 1 mile grass section through a horse meadow (NO Motocross Track for 2015)

A quick 1/4 mile transition on a dirt road that will allow for more passing and it's onto the north side of the property for the majority of the features and singletrack.  Riders will climb to the top of the property in two stages on twisty single-track.  Then it's onto a descent where you'll encounter high-banked wood turns that will make you feel like a professional down hill rider!  Once you hit the base riders will cruise under a fly-over, specially built to allow a cross-over of course traffic, and then it's on to lap - 2!  NOTE:  pre-riding will ONLY be allowed on Friday 7/24.  Trying to pre-ride early will result in a DQ, please respect the course and do not contact the property owner seeking special persmission.

XTERRA ASPEN VALLEY RUN COURSE (3.1 Miles):  The 3.1 mile run course starts out with a run over a pond.  That's right, runners will wind on a 3ft wide wood bridge for 3/4 of a mile over a pond filed with wild flowers and cattails.  Then it's onto the single track that the mountain bike course travelled over on the south end of the course.  Once runners hit the base of the descent the course will diverge as runners will travel through a wild flower cooridor before taking a lap around the motocross track.  The run course will feature 2-aid stations, one at mile 1 and another at mile 2.  The finish line will be located right by the transition area and swim start
