Midland County Parks: Sanford Park is the setting for this great event.
We have evolved with the millions of dollars in park improvements that have transpired over the 9 year history. The park is a short fifteen minutes from downtown Midland. Any number of sites to see in and around the Midland area.
The swim in Sanford lake is a straight out and back rectangle course, which is weed harvested the week of the race every year for your swimming pleasure.
The bike is an out and back on a very flat stretch followed by an equally flat run course through the residential area surrounding the park and finishing inside the park 40 feet from the transition area.
The only way to describe this course is FLAT. As many Michigan residents know the mid part of the state is nothing but flat, any hill you encounter would likely be a highway overpass. So this event is great for those looking for a fast, flat event.
The park and lake association does a great job the week leading up to the event hiring a private harvesting weed company for the race. By race morning each year, athletes enjoy a clear path around the buoys on a rectangle course. So by all means, do not judge this event by swimming before the race as the weeds are thick before hand.
The bike is an out and back as stated flat and if you get lucky and the wind is at your back coming home, we have heard athletes say "wow, that was cool, I didn’t know I could ride that fast." Of course, you will have a head wind out.
The run course is cool as it winds through the nature trail before heading out the back of the park to an out and back course. Again, very flat.
