Launched in 2006 by former Olympic Ski Jumper, Jeff Hastings, the CHaD HERO is a professionally organized, fundraising and athletic event. It has grown from a half marathon event to also include a 5k run, Cam's Course 1 Mile Fun Run, 5k walk, and 10k wooded hike. All proceeds from the event support programs and services at the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (CHaD). The CHaD HERO offers something for every age and ability level in a fun, inspiring, electric environment that includes, the Positive Tracks KidZone, music and family friendly activities. The scenic and challenging USATF-certified half marathon and 5k running courses include fall vistas of New England, views of the Connecticut River, and a quick trip into Vermont for the half marathon runners. The event is based on the iconic Dartmouth College Green in the center of Hanover, New Hampshire.

My kids would like to volunteer. Is there an age requirement?
For safety reasons, most of our volunteer positions have an age requirement of 18 years. We have a limited number or opportunities that may fit for some volunteers who are 15 or older. If you have kids who are at least 15 and interested in volunteering, please have them register online and our volunteer coordinator will be in touch with a volunteer assignment. If you have questions about volunteering please contact us at [email protected] or (603) 650-3431.

Where can I keep my personal belongings while I run/walk?
For security reasons bags may not be left unattended at the event. We do provide a staffed bag drop off location for participants' convenience. Please provide your own clear, waterproof bag and make sure your bag is clearly labeled with your name and contact information. While this area is staffed with excellent volunteers, all participants leave their belongings at their own risk.

Will there be medical support on the course?
Yes. While we hope that you will not need these services, your safety is important to us. Emergency medical support will be available at the medical station near the finish line with emergency transportation on standby, as well as EMTs on bicycles along the entire half marathon course.
