The park roads will be closed to traffic during the triathlon.

Race Site location

Pleasant Creek State Park is located 12 miles northwest of Cedar Rapids in eastern Iowa. To reach the park: From I-380 take exit #24 (Blairs Ferry Road) and head west to Palo (approximately six miles), turn north on County road W36 and follow signs. Closest airport to the park is the Eastern Iowa Airport. It is located about 30 minutes from the race site.

Swim

Wave starts begin at 7:30am sharp. The 1.2 mile course is a two loop swim from Pleasant Creek State Park swimming beach. Boats and safety personnel will be on the lake at all times. Water temperature is typically around 76 degrees. Wet suits will be allowed according to USA Triathlon rules (less than 78 degrees).

Time-Trial swim start format

Elite athletes and teams will start in waves beginning at 7:30am. All other athletes will start in a Time-Trial format. For the Time-Trial start, athletes will line up according to their respective age-group wave (USA Triathlon age is based on your age as of Dec 31st). One person will start every 3 seconds by crossing over the chip timing mat on the beach before entering the water.

Bike

Our 56 mile bike course will take you through Iowa's scenic countryside. Course marshals will be located throughout the route. Major intersections will have law enforcement personnel.

The course will leave Pleasant Creek State park before starting 4 loops of approximately 13 miles.  After the 4 loops have been completed, the course then goes back into the park where it started. It will be marked with arrows and caution signs.  A timing mat will record lap counts.

There will be one major bottle exchange station along the Pigman Long Course. This bottle exchange station will be passed 4 times during the bike approximate every 13 miles along the course.   Bottled water with a sports cap and AdvoCare Rehydrate in bike bottles will be available. AdvoCare is the official energy drink and gel provider for the Pigman Triathlon.

All bikers must wear an ANSI approved or equivalent helmet and USA Triathlon rules will be strictly enforced. Bikers without helmets will not be allowed on the course. No drafting allowed; officials will patrol the entire course.

Run

The 13.1 mile run is a 4 loop course held entirely on the roads inside of Pleasant Creek State Park.  Vehicular traffic will not be allowed inside of the park on the course while runners are present.  Each loop will be approximately 3.25 miles and finish along side of the transition area where the turn around will be located.  A timing mat will record lap counts.

Two aid stations will be located on the course.  One will be just after leaving the transition for the start of the run.  This aid station will be passed after the completion of each loop.  The second aid station will be located approximately 1.25 miles from the start of the run.  It will be passed twice on each loop.  Water, AdvoCare Rehydrate, AdvoCare Rehydrate Gel, ice, fruit, cookies and pretzels will be available. AdvoCare is the official energy drink and gel provider for the Pigman Triathlon.
