The Honolulu Rainbow EKIDEN began in March 2013 as Hawaii’s first “Ekiden” relay race for amateur runners. "Ekiden," a cultural event born and developed in Japan, bring both runners and supporters together in a spirit of harmony and joy. It is now starting to take root in Hawaii as an established sports festival.
The EKIDEN course starts at Kapiolani Park and continues alongside Diamond Head, offering a spectacular view of the ocean from the hill top turning point. Each Team has 5 runners (minimum 3) and each runner will take turns in completing the same course. Race supporters will await the runners at Kapiolani Park at the finisher area, where you can enjoy festivities such as the local food festival (WaikiKitchen) and the brand new Aloha Dance Convention.
