The Double Bridges Trailhead is within the Coosa Wildlife Management Area's Forever Wild lands, 9,746 acres of Mountain Longleaf Pine habitat interspersed by hardwood drains within the Weogufka and Hatchet Creek watersheds. The Forever Wild property also hosts one of the last remaining populations of Red-cockaded Woodpeckers outside of Alabama's National Forest system. The Alabama Hiking Trail Society builds and maintains hiking trails within the state of Alabama. All proceeds goes to the River Region Chapter of the Alabama Hiking Trail Society. Your support would help us maintain the trails in this region and will give us the funds to continue to build new trails for the community and the state.
Times for races
Packet Pickup starts at 5:30 am
7:00 am for 20 miler
8:00 am for 6 and 11.7 miler
8:30 for 5k
The 5k will be an out and back on part trail and part gravel road.
The 6 mile course will send you over rolling hills, thru beautiful fern forest and once you pass the half way camp you are almost there. You'll reach a dirt road in the Coosa Management Area for your final destination.
The 11.7 mile course goes the full course of the Coosa Trail from one trailhead to the other trailhead. There are multiple elevation changes and they include streams, bridges and various other challenges.
The 20+/- course not only includes the Coosa Trail course but it continues to follow the Eastern Continental Trail Path on a dirt road, then pavement, back to dirt until you reach the Southern Terminus of the Alabama Pinhoti Trail. Finishing this course will give you the ultimate reward as all participates that finish will receive medals and the First, Second and Third in the Male and Female will receive trophies.
Parking will be available at the Double Bridges Trailhead off of County Road 29. Those that want to park their vehicles at their destination must email [email protected] for directions to those sections. Shuttles will be available to take runners back to the starting point. Those shuttles will go every 30 minutes unless the vehicles fill up quick.

If you plan to run the 20+/- mile run and you think you'll need a drop bag at the end of the 12 mile run section, a trailer will be available to carry those bags to that trailhead. Please label your bags, we will not be responsible for lost equipment.
