SSG Jason Dahlke Memorial Energy Adventure Challenge : Off Road |
Adventure Race : 4 Hour |
The SSG Jason Dahlke Adventure Challenge is a unique combination of checkpoint finding and physical challenges. Compass skills are required. The 4 hour race will be in beautiful Fort McAllister State Park. Enjoy a very scenic and tough course for both beginners and experts. While distances will not be disclosed, as part of the 4-hour challenge of the race and due to varying distances based on navigation skills, you can expect approximately 4-6 miles of trekking/running, 12 - 15 miles of biking, and 1-2 miles of kayaking. The Sprint (2-hour) race is the same without the kayaking portion. Both races are 2-person teams.
In the 4-hour race, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place awards are given for top male team, top female team, and top co-ed team. The Sprint race awards are 1, 2nd, and 3rd place regardless of team composition.
In 2009, SSG Jason Dahlke and his teammate entered and won our inaugural race. Several months later, Jason was killed in Afghanistan while serving our country. It is with great honor, through the permission of his family, that we have renamed the event in Jason's memory. The race benefits the 1st Ranger Battalion Sua Sponte Foundation which supports Army Rangers and their families.
The course will be laid out at Fort McAllister State Park taking advantage of the natural features available. The 4-hour race includes running/trekking, mountain biking, and kayaking on the river adjacent to the park. Navigation points and challenges will be placed at various points throughout the course. The 2-hour Sprint race is the same without the kayaking. Detailed rules are available at www.energy-oasis.com.
