The race will kick off the Basin Harbor Club's Festival of Fidos on Saturday, May 16th (rain date is May 17th), a day to celebrate our four legged companions.  Bring your friends, family and of course your fido to run a 5K race or walk a mile and a half distance along Basin Harbor Clubs beautiful trails and waterfront.

Through Lacey’s Fund, the handlers of retired service dogs will be able to ensure the best possible quality of life for their deserving canine partners.

Police Dogs of the Vermont Police Canine Association come in all shapes and sizes, but all have one thing in common: They unselfishly serve the citizens and visitors of the State of Vermont. Some find drugs, some protect their handler. Others help locate missing and lost people. Some track wanted fugitives. But they all work as hard as they can, and for as long as they can. They work in all sorts of weather, on multiple deployments, and in often-dangerous situations.

These dogs work in every corner of the state and are employed by municipal, county, state, and federal agencies. In their off duty hours, these working dogs become part of the family. While these dogs are working, they are well taken care of by their respective agencies.Typically, after working an average of 5-10 years, the dogs retire to the homes and families of their handlers. Like a professional athlete, the strains of their job cause these dogs to suffer from various ailments later in life. Unfortunately, in too many instances, these dogs require health care that their handlers simply cannot afford. This is where Lacey’s Fund steps in to help.

The goal of Lacey’s Fund is to assist handlers with the resources needed to enable these retired police dogs to live out their retirement in good health, which is the very least we can do in recognition of their contribution to our communities. For every dog that has ever touched your heart, please consider giving back by making a contribution to Lacey’s Fund.
