Who and What:
Specialized Alternatives for
Families and Youth (SAFY) of NWI will be hosting a 5K Run/Walk event at
Coffee Creek in Chesterton, IN on May 23rd, 2015.
This will be a family friendly event that raises awareness for the older foster
youth population (ages 16-21) and the Older Youth Services (OYS) that SAFY
provides in partnership with Indiana’s Department of Child Services.
Proceeds from this event will assist OYS college-bound foster youth
purchase college text books and any additional items needed to smooth the
transition into living on their own for the first time. Any additional funds will go towards planning
future events that continue to support the OYS older foster youth population.
About SAFY:
SAFY is a
non-profit human service organization that provides foster and adoption
services across the nation. SAFY’s Older Youth Services in Northwest Indiana
focuses on providing independent living services for older foster youth (ages
16-21).

Race packet
pickup: 7:30-8:15AM
Walk/Run
start: 8:30AM
How the 5K will work:
Participants
in this event will have the option to walk or run the 5K route, surfaces
ranging from brick-laid to gravel. Prizes
will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place
runners and children 12 and under who participate. There will be a designated person at the
finish line to judge the placement of the runners. THIS WILL NOT BE A TIMED RACE.
If you have a stroller, please note that the
route will be have different surfaces, brick, gravel, wood chip, and depending
on weather, may be muddy in some spots.
**Important: Children 12 years and younger
must be accompanied by an adult.
Other details:
Post-race
refreshments will be provided (hotdogs, chips, drink). There will also be
music, face-painting and treats for the children. Everyone is welcome including
family or friends who don’t participate in the race.
