2015 Summer Blast Twilight Sprint Triathlon:

This is a great race for the beginner as well as the experienced triathlon racer. If you are new to the sport it offers fairly short segments so you can finish and still have some energy to continue to the bike and run.  If you are a veteran to the sport, it will give you the chance to light the after burners and not slow down until you hit the finish line.

Course Information:

Check in will begin at 4pm at the rear pavilion by the boat ramp of the Ga. Mt. Fairgrounds

Swim:  Our swim will start at 6pm. with a 1/4 mile swim.  It leaves the beach, crosses less that 100 yards of deep water, then goes around an island where, with just a few short strokes, you can be standing up if needed.  No penalties will be assessed for this, as long as you don't try to progress without swimming.  After rounding the island, it's another short swim back to the beach and into transition.

Bike:  Our bike course leaves transition, then down to hwy 76 and a left hand turn to cross traffic (with the help of police and safety squads to stop traffic) and headed through Hiawassee Ga...  It's a couple of miles to the right hand turn that takes you onto Sunny Side Rd.  This will take you around the back side of Lake Chatuge.  There are a few hills on this stretch, but nothing to hard.  Just hard enough so you don't go home thinking it was to easy.  At the end of Sunny Side, there is a light where you go right onto Hwy 76, then less that a mile to the entrance of the Ga Mt Fairgrounds and making your transition to the run.

Run:  This is a run that will keep you in the Fairgrounds and away from any road traffic.  You will run to Hwy 76, then make a sharp left turn and run back up the hill toward transition, but first run the terraces before heading for the finish line.  It's a 2 mile run that will get you to the end where you can enjoy the music, food and excitement of the race.

We should be doing the awards by 8:30 or so.  That is when the day's heat will be gone and you can enjoy the sunset on Lake Chatuge.

Directions:

There are several ways to get here, so just GPS the Ga Mountain Fairgrounds, Hiawassee Ga.  That should do the trick.
