On July 5th, 2015, a relay will depart from the end of Long Wharf in Boston. 36 days later, it will come barreling into Oakland, California, ending at the GRID Alternatives headquarters. The purpose of the relay is to raise money for GRID Alternatives, an organization that provides solar panels to low-income homeowners, launching a two-pronged attack against poverty and climate change. Each runner will raise at least $100 and write it in a check for GRID Alternatives. At each handoff point, the incoming runner will pass on the bag of checks to the departing runner, and the departing runner will put his or her check into the bag and take off. By the time the relay reaches Denver, the runner will have a backpack full of checks to deliver to the GRID Alternatives Colorado office. The relay will then continue over some of the country's most beautiful terrain, and soon another backpack of checks will be arriving at GRID Alternatives' headquarters in Oakland, California.
