2015 Santa Fe Thunder Half Marathon Presented by Sports Authority

The Santa Fe Thunder Half Marathon is New Mexico's premier destination running event.

Starting at historic Fort Marcy, the point-to-point course follows the Old Taos Highway, finishing at the magnificent Buffalo Thunder Resort & Casino within the Pueblo of Pojoaque. The 1,000 foot net downhill USATF-certified course (including 300 feet of uphill) features spectacular views of the Sangre de Cristo and Jemez mountains while dropping into the colorful Rio Grande Valley.

Inspired by live music along the course, runners will pass the Santa Fe Opera, the Village of Tesuque, Camel Rock, and through the Tesuque Pueblo on the way to Pojoaque along a route that our ancestors have run and walked for centuries.

For those desiring a shorter challenge, a 5K Run and a 1 Mile Fitness Walk will take place at Buffalo Thunder, timed so participants will complete their events and be able to welcome half marathoners to the finish line.

The Race supports 100% volunteer non-profit Global Running Culture's programs to better the lives of youth through the powers of sport in education in 3 communities where running is a vital part of the culture - northern New Mexico, the village of Matunget Kenya and Copper Canyon Mexico.

Our race weekend events celebrate the connection of wellness and culture. On Saturday 9/19, the Global Running Festival will be held at Fort Marcy Park, featuring the fourth running of the free Global Footprints Youth Runs where youngsters will have a change to run alongside worldclass Kenyan, Native American and Tarahumara runners and be the star of the show. The race expo, international arts & crafts, and world music will round out the festival and inspire the young runners along their way.

The Festival continues Sunday at the finish line at the Buffalo Thunder Resort and Casino! Finishers and spectators will enjoy free snacks at the Whole Foods Market tent, enjoy live music and performances by the Pojoaque Pueblo Youtth Hoop Dancers and have the opportunity to watch world class runners go for course and State records!

All finishers will receive a medal specially designed by Jemez Pueblo artist Bernice Gachupin and 180 age group medals handmade by Pueblo artists will be given to the top 3 finishers in 14 age groups in the Half Marathon AND the 5K!
